Wellsville, UT

William Kay Mitton passed away at the age of 90 on October 14, 2023 in Brigham City, Utah. He was born in Mt. Sterling, Utah, on February 20, 1933, during a snowstorm, to William John and Alga Mitton. Kay was raised with his siblings, Odean, Dee, Don, Jay, and Del Roy who have preceded him in death.

He graduated from South Cache High, where he excelled in music, machine shop, and welding.  He married his sweetheart Renea Lindley on September 28, 1951, in the Logan, Utah temple. They recently celebrated 72 years of marriage, and were blessed with 5 kids; KaeLene (Thomas) Morgan, Ra Cinda Mitton, Peggy (Doug) Hyer, Kurt (Sue) Mitton, Chris (Marina) Mitton. Kay loved spending time with each of his 18 grandchildren, and 53 great grandchildren.

He retired from Utah State University in 1993, where he worked as a carpenter, and major projects foreman. He also worked on the farm his whole life, and built the dairy in 1982. For the next 40 years he enjoyed working with family and teaching them the importance of hard work. Kay loved fishing, hunting, and enjoyed singing in the ward and town choir. He also enjoyed spending time with family on the annual “Out West” trip. It was one of his favorite traditions. He had many talents including carpentry, painting, inventing, and singing. He loved to restore things including farm equipment, cars, cabins, and old guns.

Kay worked in the Logan, Utah Temple for 15 years, where he developed many friendships. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and shared it often with the people he met. This made a significant impact on his family and community. He often expressed his faith in the plan of salvation, and his deep love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his son Chris Mitton, and son-in-laws Thomas J Morgan and Gregory Allen Murray.
