T. LaMar Sleight

June 11, 1941 — February 6, 2024

Theron LaMar Sleight, age 82, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024, at his residence in Meridian, Idaho. Surrounded by his loving family, he leaves behind a legacy of love and service.

Born on June 11, 1941, in Montpelier, Idaho, LaMar was the son of Theron Sleight and Grace Payne. He graduated from Preston High School and went on to join the Idaho National Guard. He served  a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the East Central States Mission.

On July 1, 1963, LaMar married Sharma Hawkins in the Logan Utah Temple, and their union was filled with love and devotion. In July 1966, he began his distinguished career in the Army.  His unwavering commitment led him to faithfully serve for 34 years and retire as a Colonel. After his military service, LaMar dedicated 12 years as the Director of the Office of International, Government, and Public Affairs for the Church in Washington D.C.

LaMar was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout his life. He held numerous leadership positions, including serving as Stake President in Oakton, Virginia, and Stuttgart, Germany. Additionally, he served as an Area Authority, Counselor in the Washington D.C. Temple Presidency, and a Sealer in the Washington D.C. and Ogden Temples.

LaMar experienced profound loss when his beloved wife Sharma passed away on October 8, 2011. However, he found companionship and married Myrna Thurber in November 2016.

Above all, LaMar’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his six children: Lesa Lynne (Keith) Brown, Cynthia Lee (Brett) Cummings, Michele Dawn (Aaron) Mendenhall, Todd LaMar (Jillian) Sleight, Craig Aaron (Adrianne) Sleight, and Nicole Grace (Jacob) Reid. His legacy extends to his 22 grandchildren: Taylor (Nicole) Brown, Megan (Kevin) Robinson, Gage (Joanna) Bartholomew, Savanna (Terry) Dey, Katelyn (Phillip) Oberman, Casadie (McKade) Palmer, Parker Cummings, Samantha (Camron) Egan, Elizabeth Sleight, Sydney Sleight, Ryan Sleight, Tyson Sleight, Ellie Mendenhall, Cooper Sleight, Andrew Sleight, Brooke Mendenhall, Zackary Sleight, Emery Reid, Riggins Sleight, Sloane Reid, Hattie Reid, and Dawson Reid. He also had the joy of knowing 1great-grandchildren: Karter, Klesa, Kinnley, and Kash Robinson, Anderson and Bentley Brown, Ryder Stucki and Preston Oberman, Finn and Kit Bartholomew, Blakely and Remi Palmer, and Catie Dey. Additionally, he is survived by his wife Myrna Thurber and sister Carol (Bill) Reeve. LaMar was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharma Hawkins Sleight, his parents Theron and Grace, his sister Sharon Whitehead, and his brother Dwight Sleight.

LaMar Sleight lived a life of dedication, service, and love. His memory will forever be cherished by his family and all those whose lives he touched.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the Millville, Utah LDS Church, 360 East 450 North, Millville, UT 84326 at 11 am.  Viewing will be Saturday at the church from 9:00 am – 10:30 am   Interment will be in the Lewiston Cemetery, Lewiston, UT with military honors being presented.
