Susan Davis Riggs, age 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a long, hard fought battle with breast cancer on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. She was born to Larry and Irene Davis on July 31, 1956 in Beaver, UT. She was the youngest of two children.
Susan graduated from Beaver High School in 1974. Upon graduation, she was excited to leave small town life and move to the big city of Salt Lake. She wasn’t afraid of hard work and was known to be fiercely independent and determined. While living in Salt Lake she supported herself working two full-time jobs. She met the love of her life, Clyde Riggs, on a blind date, and they were Sealed for Time and All Eternity in the Manti Temple on August 11, 1978. They had four children, and 13 grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She thoroughly enjoyed watching them play their various sports and they could always count on her to be right there on the floor playing games with them. She would do anything to make them smile.
The great love of Susan’s life, besides her human family, were her bulldogs Thor, and later in life, Gordo. She was an avid book lover, always reading two or three books at a time. You could often find her on the couch with a book in one hand, a coke in the other, a chocolate in her mouth, and a dog curled up next to her feet. She had many talents. She was a self-taught pianist and used that throughout her life as an organist and choir accompanist in every ward she lived in for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She also loved puzzles, sewing, crafting, The Jazz, Elvis, scary movies, Halloween, Sunday afternoon drives in the mountains, bubble baths, and a little alone time every once in a while. She was creative and smart and always encouraged her children to do well in school and to work hard. In the last few years of her life, cancer had taken away her ability to do many of the things she loved, however, it could never take away her ability to show up for her family. We know she will be the guardian angel to all of her grandkids as she cheers for them on the other side. Love you forever.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Gossner Cancer Center, especially Dr. Richard Johnson, who was such a great listener, encourager, and advocate for mom throughout her cancer journey. Mom was so grateful for all the staff and their excellent care.
She is preceded in death by her father, Larry Davis. She is survived by her mother (Irene Davis), brother (Randy (Julie) Davis), loving husband (Clyde Riggs) and children: Cansas (Jason) Christiansen, Kiley (Kirsty) Riggs, Kearsten Riggs Cowley, Cazlyn (Garrett) Eyre.
