Shane Eugene Fickas

June 7, 1971 — July 19, 2023

Hyrum, UT

Shane was born June 7, 1971 at Deer Lodge, Montana. He is the son of Jerome Stephens Fickas and Glenda Marie Teeples Welch. As a boy and young man Shane loved to play along the Logan River and hike to the mountain tops. He had an uncanny skill with his fishing pole and landed many a lunker. With his outgoing personality his list of friends grew steadily because of his easy-to-love smile and friendly characteristics. He loved to hunt pheasants, deer, elk, bear, bobcats, and the like. People liked Shane instantly for his gift of talking about so many subjects. He reveled as an archer and skilled snowmobiler. The mere thought of camping thrilled him to his britches.

Shane worked as a welder, he served as an auto parts man, carpenter and mechanic. He recently graduated from Bridgerland Technical College as a heavy equipment operator.

He loved to create things with his hands, his visionary eye which gave him the ability to shape something extraordinary from something simple or unnoticed by others or discarded into the trash.

Children flocked at his heels as he laughed and played with them, and he could win them over with his sincerity and cheerful smile.

He made is home in Logan, St. George, Millville, Hyrum and numerous other places.

Like many souls, he struggled with his vices, but made long strides along the Lord’s glorious path of repentance. As of late, he had renewal and a determination for betterment. Recently he was advanced in the Aaronic Priesthood and ordained a Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Shane was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter Kazia, of St. George, Utah. He is survived by his father, Jerome Stephens Fickas of Providence, Utah; and his mother, Glenda Marie Teeples Welch (Chad Bruce) of Hyrum, Utah; sister Wendy (Rick) Johnson of Damascus, Arkansas; sister Wanda Welch and Caryn (Chris) Fannon of Maryville, Tennessee; sister LuCretia Ann Creager of Brigham City, Utah; brother Jason (Yvonne) Welch of Clearwater, Florida; brother Justin (Jessica) Welch of Willitts, California; brother Jared (Mandy) Welch of Hyrum, Utah; brother Adam (JaCoy) Welch of St. George, Utah; sister Rachael (Lee) Christensen of Smithfield, Utah; brother Matthew Welch of Logan, Utah and sister Rebecca Welch of Logan, Utah.
