Sarah Elizabeth Anderson died of complications related to cancer Sunday, October 19, 2025. She was 48.
She was born March 26, 1977, in Logan, Utah, the third of five children of Sheryl D. George and Gary N. Anderson.
Sarah grew up fishing with her dad and swimming at the pool at his office. She loved to help her mom make dinner. Her favorite things as a child were her Cabbage Patch doll, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake and Jem, the TV series.
Sarah grew up watching Anne of Green Gables and Little Women and reciting lines from favorite films with her sisters and laughing so hard with them at night when they should’ve been asleep that her parents had to tell them to be quiet.
She liked the bands James, Tori Amos, The Smiths, The Cranberries, Muse and Blur and enjoyed attending concerts with her brother Clint and nieces. She was devoted to her dog Rango, who was by her side to comfort her every day since her diagnosis.
She attended Hillcrest Elementary, Mount Logan Middle School and Logan High School, where she played the violin in the school orchestra.
She spent a year living in St Petersburg, Russia, with her parents and two younger siblings, where she studied the Russian language and developed a love of art and art history by regularly visiting the Hermitage Museum.
She graduated from Brigham Young University, with a degree in art history, where she gave tours of the art museum to school children. She then earned a master’s degree in social work from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
She had a talent for helping those who felt out of place feel valued, including classmates at school and people she met through her work as a licensed clinical social worker. She worked as a therapist in Massachusetts and Salt Lake City, where she counselled vulnerable children and adults and victims of child abuse.
She loved soaking in the mineral pools at Crystal Hot Springs, the scent of fresh-cut grass, her grandma’s homemade bread, her cousins and her nieces and nephews.
She felt a particular closeness to her grammy Eva Fay Israelsen Anderson. Grammy’s log home, in an alfalfa field in North Logan, was a place of refuge and comfort for her.
She was the favorite aunt of her nieces and nephews. She loved painting their nails, inviting them to swim in the pool at her apartment building, and they loved confiding in her. She loved a crisp Diet Coke and cookie fudge from Aggie Ice Cream.
She is survived by her parents Gary N. and Sheryl D. Anderson; her siblings Therese Anderson Grinceri (Alan); Erik Anderson (Debbi); Clint Anderson; Janelle Orr (Dan); and five nieces and six nephews.
