Our beloved father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Russel Parley Preece, 71, passed away unexpectedly on September 30th 2026, at his home in Cove, Utah, due to a severe asthma attack combined with other health conditions. Russel was born on April 30th, 1955 in Murray, Utah to Parley Woodrow Jack Preece and Dorothy Marie (Goddard) Preece. He was the second youngest of 7 children.
He grew up in Oakley, Utah, where he spent most of his time hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles. He graduated from South Summit High School in 1973, where he played on the basketball, football, and track team. He was an exceptional athlete and won many awards. He went on to attend Utah Technical College at Provo where he remained on the honor roll and earned his certificate in general construction-carpentry. He built his own home at the young age of 22, and continued to build throughout his life. For many years he worked for Union Pacific in the oil fields.
He was previously married to Laura Bethers Preece with whom he shared three children, Brooke, Parley and James. He later married Linda Kae Preece with whom he shared four children, Tesla, Taneesha, Natasha, and Cheyenne.
He is survived by his children Brooke Preece, Parley (Heather) Preece, James (Kirsten) Preece, Tesla Keetch, Taneesha Preece, Natasha (Jeremy) Corbell, and Cheyenne (Colby) Brunson; and his twelve grandchildren Ella, Owen, Liam, Jacob, Olivia, Cambria, Jace, Shiloh, Avery, Leo, Ridge and Leah.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Dorothy, his sister, Linda, his brother-in-law, Ken, and his brother-in-law Vic.
A graveside service for Russ will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the Mink Creek Cemetery in Mink Creek, Idaho. A viewing will be held on Friday prior to the graveside service from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the Cove LDS church located at 12832 N 1200 E, Cove, Utah.
For those who need, please bring a lawn chair for the graveside service.
