Richard “Rick” Peter Gerber, a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, and beloved husband, father, and grandfather, returned peacefully to his Heavenly Parents after a miracle-filled battle with cancer. Born in Logan, Utah, to Robert K. and Lillie Nielsen Gerber, Dad’s life was defined by an unwavering commitment to his family and to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Dad grew up on “the Island” in Logan. He spent his days playing on the hill around the canal or in the pastures, fishing and exploring with his beloved dog, Toots. He graduated from Logan High School in 1966. A grandson of four faithful European converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dad carried on a legacy of faith, preaching the gospel as a missionary in Austria (1967–1969). Upon his return, he was sealed for time and all eternity to his sweetheart, Bonnie Zoe Reynolds, on June 5, 1970, in the Logan Utah Temple.
Dad graduated from Utah State University in 1971 with a degree in chemistry. He served honorably for four years in the United States Air Force and then worked for Dow Chemical Company, Intel Corporation, and RadiSys before founding his own computer software company, TenAsys.
He and Mom served in the Portland Oregon Temple, and Dad served in many callings in the Church, including bishop and stake clerk. In retirement, Dad enjoyed traveling with Mom to visit their 30 grandchildren. He and Mom served a full time mission in the Concord California Self Reliance Center from 2016-2018.
Dad was a man of keen intellect, strong determination, and sometimes inexhaustible drive. He was an avid follower of current events, a sports enthusiast, and a lover of technology.
He leaves behind a large posterity who will miss him dearly: children Richard Jason (Amy), Chesapeake, Virginia; Jared (Rebecca), Hillsboro, Oregon; Lori (Tyler) Higgins, Nampa, Idaho; Robbie (Anita), Smithfield; Jen Meyers, Ewa Beach, Hawaii; Sara (Jacob) Whetstone, Erie, Colorado; and Jeff (Sarah), Goodyear, Arizona; and 30 beloved grandchildren: Ben, Michael (Amina), Livvy, Richard, Mary Jane (Xavier), and Matthew Gerber; Jacom (Allie), Hannah (Ryan), Sam (Katilyn), Maggie (Dylan), Rachel, Matt, and Lily Gerber; Emma (Jake), Ethan (Kamdin), and Harrison Higgins; Scott, Callie, Clare, and Reed Gerber; Morgan, Bobby, Donovan, and Jovi Meyers; Anna, Henry, Lucy, and Ruby Whetstone; and Peter and Gideon Gerber.
Dad is also survived by his brother, Robert Gerber, of Smithfield, Utah. Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Barbara L. Briggs.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 on Saturday, February 14, 2026, in the Birch Creek Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 660 W 200 N, Smithfield, UT, 84335. The family will receive visitors before the funeral service from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the church. The interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
