Peggy Penney Nixon

April 12, 1943 — April 12, 2026

Nibley, Utah

Peggy Jean Penney Nixon, born April 15, 1943, in Nephi, Utah, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, just three days shy of her 83rd birthday.

As a young child, her family relocated to Meadow, Utah, so her father could manage a cattle ranch operation. Her time on the ranch instilled in her a strong work ethic and discipline that remained with her throughout her life. She often spoke fondly of those early years, especially the time spent tending the family garden—a tradition she lovingly carried on in each of her own homes.

She married her high school sweetheart, Carl, and together they made their home in Logan while attending Utah State University. Over the years, they built a life centered on family and shared experiences.

She was a devoted mother to her children, Penny Spangler (Tom), Colette Weston (Alan), Curtis Nixon (Janiel), and Colby Nixon (Elizabeth). She was a proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy in her life.

She is also survived by her siblings, Howard Penney, Sue Fowler (Jim), and Carolyn Dobson, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Peggy found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She loved playing the piano, with “You Are My Sunshine,” “Catch a Falling Star,” and “Moon River” among her cherished favorites. She was rarely without her crocheting in hand, often working on a project while watching and cheering on the many sporting activities of her children and grandchildren.

Peggy was fondly known as the “Hope Floats” grandma, happiest when painting seashells on the beach, flying kites, feeding the ducks, and collecting rocks to paint during hikes. She had a special love for children, and her favorite church callings were those that allowed her to teach, serve, and spend time with them. She also cherished her time serving in the temple, where she faithfully dedicated herself to acts of love, service, and devotion.

She had a deep love for the sunshine and the outdoors, especially time spent in Zion National Park, the deserts of Southern Utah, and the mountains of Northern Utah. Spring was her favorite season, when the landscape came alive in bloom—a beauty she cherished.

Peggy worked for many years at Nixon & Nixon before beginning a long tenure at Utah State University. Some of her favorite roles were within the Space Dynamics Laboratory and Distance Learning, which provided key opportunities for those whose circumstances would not allow a traditional college experience. She was also active for many years with the USU Women’s Club.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Maple Springs Assisted Living and Sunshine Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care, kindness, and genuine compassion.

Peggy lived a life defined by service and compassion, with a rare gift for connecting deeply and turning acquaintances into lasting friendships. This spirit is her enduring legacy. She reminds us of what matters most: the importance of family, the power of genuine connection, and the simple, lasting impact of kindness. In a world where you can be anything, be kind.
