Opal Parker Nelson

May 20, 1932 — December 21, 2025

.Opal Parker Nelson passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 21, 2025 in Logan, Utah at the age of 93.

Opal was born May 20, 1932, to Joesph and Fontella Parker at the family home in Lanark, Idaho. She was the sixth child in a family of four boys and five girls. Opal attended elementary school in a two-room schoolhouse in Lanark and high school in Paris, that’s Idaho not France! Opal enjoyed biology, Pep Club, singing in the choir and spending time with friends.

In May 1950, Opal married Dale Roberts. To this marriage seven children were born: Wayne (JeNae) Roberts, Brent (Ruth) Roberts, Kevin (Dawn) Roberts. Clinton Roberts (deceased), Sheldon (Laurie) Roberts, Denise (Blake) Swensen and Chad Roberts (decreased). Dale and Opal later divorced.Opal is the proud grandmother of 19 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Opal married Glen Nelson in February 1989. He had five children of his own: Michael (Karole) Nelson, Terry (Karen) Nelson, Dennis (Brenda) Nelson, Reed (Kim) Nelson and Laura (Mark) Spencer. They spent their married life in Mantua where all the family enjoyed spending time and many happy memories were made.

Opal has enjoyed quilting most of her life, which was taught to her by her mother, and her family has benefited from this talent, each receiving their own special quilt. She also used this talent to donate hundreds of quilts to those in need in other countries.

After Glen passed away on May 15, 2017, Opal moved to live next to her daughter in Millville where she spent 7 years enjoying time living close to family. In January of this year Opal made the move to Terrace Grove Assisted Living. This is where she spent the last year of her life. She found companionship with old and new friends there. She enjoyed the activities, musical numbers and playing games with friends.

Opal was preceded in death by her four brothers and four sisters. Her husband Glen, her two son’s Chad and Clinton Roberts and a great-great granddaughter.

She is survived by her daughter and four sons and her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Terrace Grove staff who took such great care of Opal this past year. We would also like to thank Rocky Mountain Hospice who has taken such amazing care of Opal during that tender time of her last days.

Opal will be extremely missed by all that knew her. But we find solace in knowing that she is happy and surrounded by those who love her that passed before. We can only imagine the joyous reunion that was had.

When Opal was recently asked what the best thing in her life has been, she quickly replied, her family. She loved all her family as much as she was loved in return.
