Michael McKay Oviatt

Michael McKay (Mike) Oviatt, age 68, passed away on August 8, 2026 at his home in Providence, Utah.

He was born on December 17, 1957 in Provo, Utah to Lester Connolly Oviatt and Thelma Colene Allred and spent his growing up years in the Van Nuys area in California.

Mike graduated from Sky View High School in 1976 where he played football and bragged about driving a car down the halls of the school. After high school he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Columbus, Ohio. Upon his return he married Sheralyn Marie Hall on March 16, 1979 in the Ogden Utah LDS Temple. Together they had four children.

Mike grew up with a deep appreciation for life’s simpler pleasures. He spent his career with Logan City Police Department, serving his community for 21 years, and spent several years at AutoCare Collision, as well as helping Paul Merrill repair lawn mowers. After his retirement from the police department, he went on to work as a machinist at Paragon Medical in Smithfield, Utah.

He taught his daughters to change a tire, bait a hook, and hold that flashlight in just the right spot. He was always the first to show up to help others with any project that needed done, and was an excellent teacher, a role that perfectly suited a man who always preferred to work with his hands.

To those who knew him, Mike was a true outdoorsman and family man. He was happiest when he was with his wife, children and grandchildren, or out on the water with a fishing rod in hand, or deep in the woods hunting. When he wasn't in nature, you could almost always find him in the garage. He had a lifelong passion for anything with an engine, spending countless hours fixing cars and riding motorcycles. In his younger years, he had a love for skydiving with his best friend, Kelly Campbell.

Above all, Mike will be remembered for his unmistakable sense of humor. He was a master of sarcastic jokes, always ready to lighten the mood or offer up his own unique brand of "words of wisdom" to anyone who needed advice (and many who didn't). His quick wit and sharp mind kept his family and friends laughing until the very end.

He is survived by his wife, Sheralyn Marie Hall Oviatt of 47 years and three of his four children, Lesley (James) Dian Hamilton of Nibley, Utah, Heather Marie Oviatt of Syracuse, Utah and Kristen Nicole (Mike) Auga of Soda Springs, Idaho; his grandchildren, Caroline, Bailey, Elaina, Lillian, Brinley, Amelia, Grace, Derek, Eddie, and another granddaughter on the way. He is also survived by his siblings, Carol, Marilyn, Lisa and Tony.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Colene Oviatt, and his son Michael Lee, and his best friend Kelly Campbell.

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 18th at 11:00 AM at the Wellsville City Cemetery, 400 North 200 East in Wellsville, Utah.  A visitation with will be held on Monday evening, August 17th from 6:00-8:00 PM at the White Pine Funeral Home, 753 South 100 East in Logan.  

In lieu of flowers, go have a Country Time Lemonade, Coke or Mountain Dew and catch the biggest fish you can.

As Mike would always say, "It will feel better when it quits hurting." He will be deeply missed.
