Maria Librada Sauceda Kupiec – Life Sketch – September 2025

Maria Librada Sauceda Kupiec was born in Harlingen, Texas on August 17th, 1950 to Ramon and Cristina (Arroyo) Sauceda. She was raised partly by her godmother, Socoro Sauceda (paternal aunt) and her parents. She completed the 6th grade in Saltillo, Mexico. Her desire to work and help care for herself and her family took precedence over her schooling in her younger years. Later, she completed her GED and earned her driver’s license while babysitting for and influenced by the Baron family, educators in Barrow, Alaska.

In her late teens, Maria babysat for families learning much from the children and their parents. They shaped her life and guided her path. Babysitting led Maria from Mexico to Texas to Barrow, Alaska. She was extremely grateful for the children and treated them as her own. She had a natural, spiritual gift that was magnified as she immersed herself in caring for children.

She would wake at 5:00 am and started receiving children at 6:00 am that would stay until after 6:00 pm. She loved them dearly. Her love for them included having discipline and expectations. The children and youth rose to these expectations. The older kids helped entertaining and watching out for the younger children. She would kiss the children on the cheek and often told them she loved them. Maria made more than their share of macaroni and cheese and chocolate chip cookies, their favorite. Out of her own pocket, she would make cakes, buy presents and hold birthday parties for the children. She served and cared for more than 80 children over a 30 year time span and even had up to 13 kids at a time including several babies. All grown up, many of the children she cared would reach out to her and tell her of their life events. She continued to love them with her whole heart; found joy in their successes and mourned with them in their heartaches and tragedies.

While in Barrow, Maria began noticing Ingo. She brought him hamburgers when he worked overtime or offered to walk dog. They married on summer solstice in Barrow, Alaska (1994). They moved to Fairbanks where Maria took the missionary discussions and was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ingo and Maria Kupiec were one of the first couples sealed in the Anchorage, Alaska Temple in January 1999. The couple spent 6 months on a mini-mission at the St. George Temple. They sold their home in Fairbanks and settled in Wellsville, Utah. In Utah, Maria continued to thrive in her marriage, testimony and growth in becoming more Christlike in love and patience.

Maria is survived by her husband Ingo Kupiec; step-children Kimberly McLaney & Heidi Tinney and grandchildren – Jonathon, Jenna, Christopher and Briella; her siblings - Janey (Juanita), Augustina, Servando (and wife Consuelo), Rosalinda, Carmen, Martin and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Cristina and Ramon Sauceda and sister Tonita (Antonia) and her niece, Astrid. In the days leading up to her death she had a clear conscience and would say, “I have had a good life and have been very blessed. I have no regrets.”

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. at the Wellsville City Cemetery 400 N. 200 E Wellsville, Utah 84339.

María Librada Sauceda Kupiec nació en Harlingen, Texas, el 17 de agosto de 1950, hija de Ramón y Cristina (Arroyo) Sauceda. Fue criada en parte por su madrina, Socoro Sauceda (tía paterna), y sus padres. Cursó el sexto grado en Saltillo, México. Su deseo de trabajar y ayudar a su familia y a sí misma prevaleció sobre sus estudios en su juventud. Posteriormente, completó su GED y obtuvo su licencia de conducir mientras cuidaba niños para la familia Baron, educadores de Barrow, Alaska, y recibía la influencia de ellos.

Al final de su adolescencia, María cuidaba niños para familias, aprendiendo mucho de los niños y sus padres. Ellos moldearon su vida y guiaron su camino. El cuidado de niños la llevó de México a Texas y a Barrow, Alaska. Estaba sumamente agradecida por los niños y los trataba como si fueran suyos. Poseía un don espiritual natural que se amplió al dedicarse por completo al cuidado de niños. Ella se despertaba a las 5:00 am y comenzaba a recibir a los niños a las 6:00 am que se quedaban hasta después de las 6:00 pm. Ella los amaba entrañablemente. Su amor por ellos incluía tener disciplina y expectativas. Los niños y jóvenes estaban a la altura de estas expectativas. Los niños mayores ayudaban a entretener y cuidar a los niños más pequeños. Ella besaba a los niños en la mejilla y a menudo les decía que los amaba. María hacía más de lo que les correspondía en macarrones con queso y galletas con chispas de chocolate, sus favoritas. De su propio bolsillo, hacía pasteles, compraba regalos y organizaba fiestas de cumpleaños para los niños. Sirvió y cuidó a más de 80 niños durante un lapso de 30 años e incluso tuvo hasta 13 hijos a la vez, incluidos varios bebés. Ya adultos, muchos de los niños que cuidaba se acercaban a ella y le contaban los eventos de su vida. Ingo y María Kupiec fueron una de las primeras parejas selladas en el Templo de Anchorage, Alaska, en enero de 1999. La pareja pasó seis meses en una minimisión en el Templo de St. George. Vendieron su casa en Fairbanks y se establecieron en Wellsville, Utah. En Utah, María continuó prosperando en su matrimonio, testimonio y crecimiento, volviéndose más como Cristo en amor y paciencia.

A María le sobreviven su esposo Ingo Kupiec; sus hijastros Kimberly McLaney y Heidi Tinney; y sus nietos: Jonathon, Jenna, Christopher y Briella; Sus hermanos: Janey (Juanita), Augustina, Servando (y su esposa Consuelo), Rosalinda, Carmen, Martín y varios sobrinos y sobrinas. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Cristina y Ramón Sauceda, y su hermana Tonita (Antonia) y su sobrina, Astrid. En los días previos a su muerte, tenía la conciencia tranquila y decía: «He tenido una buena vida y he sido muy afortunada. No me arrepiento de nada».
