Margaret Vallier Dalton Showalter passed away on Sunday June 28, 2026 after complications from cancer. She was 89.
Born on October 24, 1936, in Birmingham, MI, to Clyde Elmer Dalton and Mary Louise Truax, Margaret was the fourth of five children. She is survived by her younger sister Karen Lamparter (Gene) and preceded in death by her brothers Lee, John, and David.
Margaret lived her life with a positive and resilient spirit, devoted above all to her family and her faith. A strong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she centered her life on Jesus Christ and serving His gospel with quiet dedication.
In 1972, she married her eternal companion Donald L. Showalter Jr. and remained lovingly by his side until his passing in 2023. A nurturing mother to her children and stepchildren alike, Margaret held her entire family — parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles — close to her heart and worked tirelessly to keep them connected.
She is survived by her children: Karlen V. Meadows (Stephen), Bruce D. Showalter (Sumiko Iwanami), Donald L. Showalter III (Peggy Walgren), Christine S. Bogart (Todd), James A. Showalter (Lynn Harrison), John H. Kimball (Susan), and Jane Kimball Novielli (Douglas). She was preceded in death by Judith Kimball Miller and Joshua Turner. She was also the proud grandmother of 21 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
For the past four years, Margaret called Williamsburg Senior Residency in Logan home. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff there, and especially to hospice nurse Brad Mower and his CNA team, for the loving care they provided in her final days.
