Margaret Hall Wyatt Bailey

February 3, 1933 — April 15, 2026

Wellsville, UT

Margaret Hall Wyatt Bailey passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at her home in Wellsville, with her children at her side. She was born February 3, 1933, at her home in Wellsville. She was the eighth of ten children born to Thomas Leavitt Wyatt and Sarah Elizabeth (Libbie) Gunnell Hall. As they grew up together, they were best friends and playmates. She is the last of her siblings to pass away.

Margaret learned to work alongside both her mother at home, and alongside her father with the livestock and his business. She learned that hard work was enjoyable and satisfying, and that attitude stayed with her throughout her life.

Margaret enjoyed going to school at Floradell Elementary School and Wellsville Junior High School. She graduated from South Cache High School. Her favorite school years were fifth and sixth grade. They were combined into one class and were the oldest kids at school. World War 2 was coming to an end and the hardship created by war was beginning to ease. Her favorite subjects were English, literature, physiology, and home economics. In junior high and high school she had main roles in school plays and operettas. She loved to dance, and dancing was an important part of the roles she played. She looked forward to dances at Elite Hall every Saturday night. Margaret was on the staff that created the school yearbook, The Echo. During her senior year, she began helping her father run his gas station on the corner of 2nd East and Main in Wellsville. Her father’s health was beginning to fail, and he relied on her to run the business.

Margaret was engaged to Don W. Bailey when she graduated from high school. He had been drafted into the army spent that summer at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. He came home on a ten-day leave in August 1951 and they decided to get married before he shipped out for Korea. Their mothers quickly planned the wedding, and somehow things fell into place. They were married on August 13, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Four days later, Dad was on a troop ship headed east for a year-long combat tour of duty.

Dad and Mom finished his army service at Camp Atterbury in Shelbyville Indiana. They rented an apartment off base and had a year full of new experiences and new friendships. When Dad was discharged, they drove straight home to Utah and began their dream of raising cattle and kids. When Dad passed away in 2021, they had been together for seventy years.

Mom and Dad worked hard together and built a very successful dairy operation from scratch. They started with a few cows and a few acres. They gradually added cows and farmland. Mom was a hard worker and a careful money manager. There were lots of hard times and lots of ups-and-downs, but they never gave up.

Mom spent many years as part of a ladies’ social club in Wellsville. They were close friends and knew each other’s families. They gathered once a month at the home of a club member for dinner and visiting. Just before Mother’s Day each year, they invited their daughters to a special dinner and program at a local restaurant. We have many fond memories of the time spent and the friendships that grew out of those dinners.

Mom spent Thursday mornings at the salon getting her hair done by Sharon Simper, a dear friend in Wellsville. This was so important to her. This time was her social life, hairdo refresh and had to have it just right for the week. She didnt leave the house without being properly put together. Hair done. Lipstick on. We so appreciate Sharon taking care of the weekly hair appointment after Moms dear friend LaDaun passed away.

Mom found joy in her many church callings throughout the years. She was a Primary leader, Young Women’s leader, Sunday School teacher and ward librarian. She served in the Relief Society presidency and at Logan LDS Temple for many years.

Margaret and Don raised, taught, guided, and loved five children: Sandra (Paul Garrett), Jan (Kirt Lindley), Kathy (Russ Piggott), Reed (Dayna), and Diane (Darren Roundy). They have fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Family was everything to Mom and Dad. It is impossible to measure the impact of their love and influence, not only on us, but also on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many generations to come.

Mom’s advice for marriage was: “Be able say your piece, and when you get mad, get over it and move on. The road in life is pretty bumpy and you have to learn to go with the flow, you have to learn to get along, you have to learn to share, and you have to learn to confide in each another.”

She said, “Don tried to make a cowgirl out of me but I wasn’t cut out for that stuff. Then he wanted me to iron his clothes a certain way, and I ironed them the way I wanted them. You have to learn to compromise.”

A funeral service for Margaret will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 12:00 noon, at the Wellsville Stake Center, 30 South Center Street, Wellsville, Utah.
