Leon Rasmussen

Leon Rasmussen, 85, passed away on August 4, 2026, in Millville, Utah.

Leon was born March 29, 1941, in Tremonton, Utah, to Owen and Lillian Rasmussen. He grew up in Elwood, Utah, where he developed a lifelong love for farming, animals, horses, and the outdoors. He graduated from Bear River High School in 1959 and continued his education with some college coursework, including studies in drafting. From 1962 to 1964, he served a mission in the southern states for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On June 2, 1965, Leon married his sweetheart, Linda Andreasen in the Logan, Utah Temple. Together, they built a family that became the center of Leon's life. They raised seven children: Greg (Beckie) Rasmussen, David (Anna) Rasmussen, Tonya (Michael) Croshaw, Brian (Teri) Rasmussen, Lisa Rasmussen, Todd (Kim) Rasmussen, and Melissa (Rob) Trenum.

Family meant everything to Leon. He worked hard throughout his life, continuing well beyond traditional retirement age, to provide for those he loved. He sought to teach his children well, to help them understand and live the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to care for his family in the best way he knew how. That care extended beyond his family as well. Leon genuinely loved others and was always willing to find ways to serve and help those around him.

Throughout his working years, Leon worked in warehouse and parts management, including positions with Hesston, Nucor Steel, Thiokol, Texas Gulf (in Green River, WY), and Zollinger Cold Storage. Away from work, however, some of his greatest interests were found outdoors. He loved farming, raising and training horses, working in the yard, and dreaming of someday being a rancher. Some favorite family memories were made on simple outings together, including rides and adventures with the family piled into the back of a pickup and hikes up Millville Canyon, where Leon often carried the smallest child on his back on the way down.

Leon had a practical and resourceful nature. Years of keeping older vehicles running made him a capable mechanic, and he seemed to have saved every useful nut, bolt, and piece of hardware he might someday need. When a project came along, there was a good chance Leon already had exactly the part required tucked away somewhere.

He was also known for his genuine kindness toward others. He cared about people, greeted neighbors and passersby with a wave, and treated those around him with warmth and consideration.

Leon loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and had a strong and enduring faith in Him and His gospel. Throughout his life, he willingly served wherever he was called, including in a bishopric, as an elders quorum president, and in the high priests quorum. His faith was reflected not only in his church service but also in the way he sought to live, raise his family, and serve others.

Leon is survived by his wife, Linda; their seven children and their spouses; 30 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, with five more on the way; his sister, Judy Barney (Jerry); and his brothers, Gary Rasmussen (Marge) and Rue Rasmussen (Marilyn). He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Lillian Rasmussen, his brothers, Niles Rasmussen and Bruce Rasmussen (Marie), and his brother-in-law, Jerry Barney.

A viewing will be held Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse, 110 South Main, Millville, Utah. A second viewing will be held Friday, August 14, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the same location. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Millville-Nibley Cemetery.

Leon will be remembered for his devotion to Linda, his family, his faith, his love of horses and the outdoors, his resourceful hands, and the genuine kindness he extended to those around him. His life was one of steady work, simple pleasures, faithful service, and enduring love and care for his family.
