Larry Everett Turgoose

Dec 19, 1943 — Aug 18, 2026

Logan, Utah

Larry Everett Turgoose, age 82, of Logan, Utah, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Larry was born December 19, 1943, in Rifle, Colorado, to Dorothy and George Turgoose. He spent his early years helping on the family ranch—herding cattle, growing crops, and driving tractors. He loved to tell people he had been driving since he was four years old. He attended Rifle High School, where he was actively involved in agricultural education classes.

Larry had a lifelong passion for learning and education. He earned a master's degree and later a doctoral degree in education. During his career, he served as an agricultural teacher, junior high biology teacher, drivers education teacher, high school principal, junior high and high school counselor, and school district superintendent.

In the summer of 1972, Larry married Phyllis Welker in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they raised seven children—four boys and three girls. Larry was especially proud that their children arrived in a repeating pattern: boy, girl, boy, girl.

Larry's career in education allowed the family to enjoy many wonderful summers together. They often spent weeks visiting grandparents and cousins in Colorado or taking road trips to the Seattle area. The family also enjoyed camping and boating on the ocean with the Welker family.

Larry is survived by his children: Aaron (Kari) Turgoose, Ada (David) Orth, Brian (Lindsay) Turgoose, Elizabeth (Timothy) Jimenez, George (Debra) Turgoose, Marsha (Travis) Cotterell, and William (Mindi) Turgoose; 32 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; his parents, Dorothy and George; and his brother, Gary.

There will be no formal services at this time. A memorial will be held at a later date.

Larry will be interred next to his wife in the Langley, Washington Cemetery.
