Benson

Larry J. Falslev, retired farmer from Benson, Utah died on May 4, 2023 at home after a series of strokes. Born on 17 March, 1940, he was the last born son of Oga Falslev and Syliva Nelson Falslev. He graduated from North Cache High School in the class of 1958 and then enlisted in the Army, serving in Germany. He returned to Benson where he began dairy farming with his father and his brother Harold. Later, he started his own dairy just across the Bear River, but still in Benson. He married his first wife RoAnne Preece in 1961. They had three sons and later divorced. In 1990, he married Mary Young Mather and helped her raise three children.

He loved farming, and after selling his milk herd, he raised a few beef and a lot of alfalfa. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in the scouting program and as a Sunday School teacher, after which he served many years as a ward financial clerk. He enjoyed reading Church publications and listening to General Conference. He also enjoyed a few trips to the West Coast and a couple of trips to Texas, but mostly he liked being at home. Even after retirement, he enjoyed watching the operation of his former acreage. He loved it when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to the farm to visit.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers, George, Leo, Rulon, LaRon, Harold, and a sister Wilma Degn (Otto). He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Gary Jay Mather. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, his sons Darren (Annette) of Springdale, Arkansas, Dennis of Benson, and Donald (Tara) of Colorado Springs, his stepdaughter Margaret Mather Bennion of Bountiful, and stepson Ellis Mather of Danbury, Connecticut. He is also survived by four sisters, Evelyn Larsen (Larry) of Cedar Hills, Shirley Pederson (Herschel) of American Fork, JoAnn Lundberg (Heber) of Logan, Norma Hancey (James P.) of Hyde Park, Arlene Hobbs (Gary) of American Fork, fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
