Jon Bruce Rose( formerly known as Bruce but currently known as Jon), 84, of Nibley UT, passed away on December 24, 2023 Christmas Eve.
Jon was born on January 13, 1939 to Mc J and Helen Rose in Logan, UT. He was the oldest of 6 children being the only boy, having 5 sisters which he lamented often in his younger years but cherished in his older age. After Jon graduated from South Cache High School in 1957, he went on to serve in the United States Navy as a corpsman specializing in cross matching blood, autopsies, and other lab work. After 4 years of serving in the Navy, he went on to graduate from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree.
During college, Jon had many different jobs in the construction and paving trades but was an entrepreneur at heart. He started up several different businesses but his favorite was working with the mining and oil companies, offering them products that supported their industries.
In 1965, Jon met Leanna Lake at the Terrace Ballroom in Salt Lake City, UT. Jon was working as a janitor and Leanna was selling tickets to the Beach Boys concert. When Jon saw Leanna, he walked up to her and said “I’m going to take you to lunch”. Jon was always good at working towards and eventually getting what he wanted and one year later on September 2, 1966, Jon and Leanna were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. They went on to have 4 children Briton Mechele, Jon Nicholas, Alexandrea and Gia McKenzie.
Jon was always busy doing something and he rarely sat down. He enjoyed shaping bonsai trees (in his earlier years), working in his garden, and in later years, creating a place of solitude that was referred to as “Gramps fort” in their backyard by the river. He loved anything to do with plants. He could bring any plant back to life and had several that he had nurtured and eventually made beautiful. Jon was quite ingenious and could make something out of nothing but his favorite pastime was mowing the lawn and making it look beautiful. We often joke that if Heaven has a chief lawn mower that will be Jon’s calling.
One of the greatest joys he had in his life was teaching the youth for 20 years as a Sunday School teacher. He loved all the youth and felt a special connection to them and they to him. He also loved to make friends with those who were out on the fringes of their community. He especially loved his grandkids and tried to do small but special things for them like creating a 50 foot water slide in the park behind their house which has become a favorite memory for each one of them.
Jon is survived by his wife, Leanna, his daughter, Briton Mechele (Greg), his son, Nick Rose (Nicki), his daughter Ali Holmes (Brock) and his last daughter Gia Jensen (Corey), 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and his 5 sisters Jerry Facer (Lloyd), Claudia Scott (Don), Nan Bateman (Glen), Toni Jensen, and Chris Rosche (Christopher).
Of all the things shared above, Jon would especially want us to know that he had a strong testimony and love of his Savior Jesus Christ. He never missed an opportunity to testify of the Savior to his children and grandchildren whether it was in word or by action but more importantly he tried to live every day as The Savior wanted him to live. He has touched many lives because of the light of Christ that shined through him.
