JoAnn Carroll, daughter, mother, sister, and friend, passed away after a life marked by resilience, talent, and strength. She died in her home at Autumn Care in Hyde Park, Utah.
JoAnn was born on April 3, 1938, to Donald M Hatch and Lucille Arbuckle Hatch, and was the eldest of five children. She'is survived by her three sons, Roger (Louise) Carroll, James (Sydney) Carroll, and Conway (Charice) Carroll. Her sisters Kathleen (Richard) Christensen, Barbra (Kenneth) Miller, and her brother Richard (Jane) Hatch. She had 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
JoAnn spent her early years in Milford, Utah, before her family settled in Bountiful, where she attended Stoker Elementary, Bountiful Junior High, and Davis High School, She later earned an Associate's Degree from College.During her school years, JoAnn was known for her bright mind, outgoing nature, and love of connection. She enjoyed her high school experience, forming cherished friendships within a close-knit social group. She had natural enthusiasm for life and loved to compete, participating in activities such as theater, debate, and sewing, where her exceptional skill and creativity were shown.
From a young age, JoAnn developed a remarkable talent for sewing, learning at the side of her mother and aunt. She was so proud of her "Betty Crocker" award that she won in high school. Her craftsmanship was extraordinary-she created beautifully tailored garments that were treasured and worn for many years. Her attention to detail and care in her work reflected the love she poured into everything she did. This talent she honed as a 4-H club member, winning many blue ribbons at the Davis County Fairs.
JoAnn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings, such as Primary and Relief Society, and as Ward Librarian. She also served a senior mission in Washington, D.C.
She was never still, always doing something for a friend, family, or a member of her ward. In her professional life, she won the "Toast Masters" award for public speaking, sponsored by Quest Star Gas Company, where she worked for several years She was a devoted mother to her sons. She took pride in the fact that all three were Eagle Scouts and encouraged each of her boys also to be creative and explore their talents as she had done. She made sure to create a warm and welcoming home and was known as a wonderful housekeeper who cared deeply for her family.
JoAnn faced many trials throughout her life-challenges no one should have to endure. Yet, in her later years, she found measure of peace and healing. She was especially comforted by the love and support of her family; including her oldest son and daughter-in-law, whose presence brought her great happiness in her final years.
JoAnn also held close relationships with her extended family. She adored her cousins, aunts, and uncles, and shared a special bond with her cousin, Robert Brown, that remained meaningful throughout her life.
JoAnn will be remembered for her resilience, creativity, and determination to look ahead and move forward, no matter what stood in her way. She will be missed!
