September 21, 1942 — May 4, 2026

Providence, Utah

JoAn J. Berrett, 83, of Providence, Utah, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026. She was a loving wife to Richard H. Berrett and devoted mother to Jolynne, Janine, Beck, Scott, and Kristen. Together, she and Richard were blessed with eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. JoAn also considered many dear friends from all walks of life as family.

JoAn is survived by her daughters Jolynne Berrett, Janine Smith (Corray), Beck Berrett-Taylor (Perry), and Kristen Berrett-Swenson (Matt); daughter-in-law Taunia R. Berrett (Scott); her siblings Larry Judd (Jana) and Donna Oliver (Charlie); sister-in-law Grace Berrett (Verne); grandchildren, great- grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and special cousins whom she adored.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard H. Berrett; her parents, Billy V. Judd and Thelma W. Judd; her sister, Thelma; her brothers, Bill and John; her son, Scott; and her great-grandson, Haydon.

JoAn was born in Colonia Chuichupa, Chihuahua, Mexico, where she spent the first four years of her life. In 1946 her family moved to Colonia Juarez, near Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua.

At 18, JoAn moved to Utah to attend BYU, living with her aunt and uncle, Irene and Delbert Brown. At the time, their son, Brownie, was serving a mission and due to return soon.

Upon returning from his own mission, Brownie's best friend, Richard Berrett, visited Irene and Delbert and met their charming niece, JoAn. They were married in 1962 and shared 62 wonderful years together until Richard's passing in 2024.

JoAn was both an artist and a gifted musician, filling her home with paintings, handcrafted items, and music. She taught her children a love of reading, art, music, travel, scriptures and nature. She taught them each to play the piano and taught piano and organ lessons to many in the surrounding community.

She loved the Gospel and shared her talents with her ward, serving in numerous callings throughout multiple organizations including Branch Relief Society President, ministering sister, organist, and teacher. Later, she served as a missionary with Richard in Virginia and as a liaison for BYU while Richard was an associate administrator at the BYU campus in Jerusalem.

She cared for friends and family with all her heart, showing compassion and love in her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
