Jeffrey Bingham Hancey, 84, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Jeff was born to Clarence and Bessie Bingham Hancey on January 10, 1942.

Raised in Hyde Park, Utah, Jeff spent his childhood getting into all kinds of mischief with his brothers, Wayne and Jim, and his sister, Luanna. The Hancey boys were well known for causing a little trouble around town—and giving their mother more than a few gray hairs. Jeff loved spending time with his siblings and took great pleasure in teasing them whenever he got the chance. From a young age, Jeff learned the value of hard work. He had a hard time sitting still and was always looking for something to keep him busy, beginning with early mornings and late nights milking cows for pennies.

Jeff attended Hyde Park Elementary and Smithfield Junior High before graduating from North Cache High School in 1960. He loved working on cars and landed a job at Baugh Motor Company, later finding great joy running his own shop in Hyde Park, where he inspected and repaired vehicles for his friends and neighbors.

After high school, Jeff enlisted in the Utah National Guard, serving in the mechanics division. He was deeply proud to serve his country and maintained a lifelong patriotism as an active member of the American Legion. Jeff lived his life by one of his favorite sayings: “If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” His strong work ethic showed throughout his career, including more than 30 years as a press supervisor at Moore Business Forms in Logan, Utah. Following his retirement from Moore’s, he worked at The Home Depot, where he loved meeting people and helping them bring their projects to life.

An avid horseman, Jeff loved breaking horses, showing them, and riding through the mountains of Logan Canyon. He also loved the outdoors and target shooting, spending countless hours at the range with his brother Jim—a habit both men jokingly blamed for their hearing loss in later years. Jeff particularly enjoyed reloading his own ammunition. When he eventually had to give up riding, he traded his horses for four-wheeling in the mountains alongside his good friends, Dennis Cooper and Ed Rigby.

Jeff married Linda Kay Nish, with whom he had four children; they were later divorced. He then married Trudy Nelson Weese, gaining three more children. Jeff and Trudy made their home in Hyrum, Utah.

Jeff was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as an Ordinance Worker in the Logan Temple. One of his favorite callings was serving alongside his wife as a Primary teacher—a role he thoroughly enjoyed despite never having done anything like it before. He cherished his membership in the Hyrum 7th Ward and in the branch at his residence.

In his later years, Jeff enjoyed visiting with his many friends and neighbors. Though slowing down was never easy for him, he deeply appreciated the kindness and companionship he experienced while living at the Blacksmith Fork Assisted Living Community.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Trudy Hancey; his children, Lori (Greg) Traveller, Darrin (Stacy) Hancey, Marci (Scott) Jackson, Mindi (Mike) Frost, Donna (Gary) Godfrey, Brian Weese, and Jon (Andrea) Weese; his brother, Jim (Norma) Hancey; and his sister, Luanna (Charles) Leavitt. Also, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom he loved and cherished.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bessie Hancey, and his brother, Wayne Hancey.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff and residents of Blacksmith Fork, as well as the doctors and nurses at Logan Regional Hospital, for their loving care and support. A very special thank you goes to his nurse, Misty Rich, for accompanying Jeff on his Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., allowing him to visit the monuments and honor the country he loved so dearly.

Funeral services are under the direction of White Pine Funeral Services and the Hyrum 7th Ward. The family is profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this time.

Viewing services will be held on Sunday, August 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at White Pine Funeral Services - 753 S. 100 E. Logan, Utah.  An additional viewing will be held on Monday, August 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ meetinghouse, 455 East 100 South, Hyrum Utah.  Funeral services will immediately follow the viewing at 12:00 Noon.

Interment will take place at the Hyrum Cemetery, followed by full military honors presented by the American Legion.
