Obituary

James Lewis Arrant, 68, of Wellsville, UT, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after he fought valiantly against cancer.

Born on December 28, 1957, to Van and Colleen Arrant, Jim grew up in Sunset Utah with a strong sense of hard work and dedication. Growing up, he excelled at sports—playing football and running track at Sunset Junior High and Clearfield High School—and built lifelong friendships through athletics. Throughout his life, he was widely known for his remarkable work ethic, which was wonderfully reflected in his ownership and operation of a family business for 30 years—where all of his children and several of his nephews worked alongside him at some point in time—and the great pride he took in everything he did.

On March 10, 1979, Jim married the love of his life, Mary Jane, for time and all eternity in the Ogden Temple. Together, they built a wonderful life grounded in a deep love of family. Jim’s greatest joy and proudest legacy were his children and their families: Melanie (Robert) Marx, Colton (Katelyn) Arrant, Benjamin (Ignacia) Arrant, and Amanda (Jeremy) Saltern. He was a proud and doting grandfather to his 7 beloved grandchildren—Aaron, Ainsley, Jackson, Tyler, Rustyn, Violet, and Blakely—taking immense joy and pride in each of them.

When he wasn't working hard or supporting his grandchildren in all of their various activities, Jim found his greatest peace and happiness in hunting and riding horses in the Uintas. Whether spending time in nature or sharing his appreciation for the outdoors with his family, those moments were among his most cherished. He was known for his quiet wisdom and generous spirit, and he was always the first person to lend a hand to a neighbor or offer words of encouragement.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jim was deeply active in his faith and served willingly in many callings throughout his life. Over the years, he made his home as a resident of Sunset, West Point, Syracuse, Hooper, and ultimately Wellsville, Utah, leaving a legacy of community and kindness in every place he lived.

Jim is so loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Jane; his children, Melanie (Robert) Marx, Colton (Katelyn) Arrant, Benjamin (Ignacia) Arrant, and Amanda (Jeremy) Saltern; his 7 grandchildren (Aaron, Ainsley, Jackson, Tyler, Rustyn, Violet, and Blakely); his siblings, Thomas, Mary Ann, Michael, Becky, and Heather; and many other loving family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Van and Colleen Arrant, and his siblings, Gene, Richard, Connie, Susan, and Colleen.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their compassionate care and support throughout his fight against cancer.

A viewing will be held on the evening of Monday, October 5, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at White Pine Funeral Home 753 S. 100 E. Logan, Utah. A funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM with a viewing preceding from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Hyrum 3rd Ward building, 95 North 675 West in Hyrum.
