Horace LeRoy Morrill III, 76, of Hyrum, Utah, passed away of natural causes on September 8, 2025.
He was the eldest of nine children born to Horace LeRoy Morrill Jr. and Anna Olsen. LeRoy, as he was known by family and friends, was born in Logan, Cache, Utah on December 15, 1948. He attended Green Acres Elementary, Alameda Junior High, and Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from Idaho State University Trade and Technical School in the electronics program and later completed a B.S. in Business and Computer Science.
LeRoy was an Eagle Scout and attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania in 1964. He served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northwest Mission, serving in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. He was a lifetime active member of the Church and served in various callings but longest as a ward and stake clerk.
After obtaining his degree, he moved to Boise and was a systems engineer and programmer for the State of Idaho. He distinguished himself in his job and always received exceptional evaluations from his superiors. LeRoy loved mathematics, computers, and technology. He did not marry until he was 38 years old. His mother always said that “it would have to be a woman that wanted him and wanted to look and think like a computer. One did, but she was much nicer and prettier than a computer.” Carolyn Kaye Chandler and LeRoy were married in Logan, Utah on June 13, 1987, later solemnized in the Boise Temple on February 20, 1988.
He is survived by six of his siblings, Elizabeth Ann Barrett (Daniel), Ogden, Utah; Barta Lee Stevenson (Jeffrey), Manhattan, Kansas; Marian Rae Grayson (Paul), Pocatello, Idaho; Patricia Morrill, Logan, Utah; Michelle Morrill, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Christian Robert Morrill, Nampa, Idaho. He is also survived on the Morrill side of the family by 13 nieces and nephews and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Lynn Morrill, a brother, Scott Kay Morrill, his wife, Carolyn, and his parents.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Logan City Cemetery, 1000 N 1200 E, Logan, Utah.
