Gladys Lynn Sweeten

Gladys Lynn Sweeten, 76, Kaysville, Utah, passed away peacefully in Logan surrounded by her family. With grit, determination, and great care givers, she fought a good fight with cancer exceeding her life expectancy by three years.

Born on May 13, 1950 in Malad, Idaho to George Wray Sweeten and Bessie Jean Krage. Gladys grew up on a ranch in Holbrook in the summers and Malad in the winters, her family moved to Bountiful when she was 14 years old and then settled in Kaysville when she was 15. Gladys learned how to wallpaper from her grandfather, John Krage who would cook his own wallpaper paste on the stove and always said it wasn't a good batch unless it boiled over. Gladys was always very creative and fun.

Gladys was a skilled craftsperson and for over thirty years, owned two of her own businesses: wallpaper hanging, retail decor, and antiques. Some of her clients were famous Utah Jazz basketball players, and she had also wallpapered an LDS Temple in Mexico, as well as one in Venezuela. She loved to travel, and as long as her curlers were packed, she was ready to go at the drop of a hat. Kindness came so naturally to her; she would be the first to compliment or strike up a conversation with a stranger. She was a people person and cultivated friendships with all of her clients, some becoming lifelong friends. She loved working with her hands and creating beauty whether it was making art, gardening, cooking, making jam from the berries she would grow, crocheting washcloths or blankets, or making candy, she loved to share and make people happy with her gifts. She is famous for her cheese blintzes and her caramel logs; if you were lucky enough to receive either of those, you were extremely special to her. When she retired she became very involved in preserving the history of Kaysville City and volunteered to be on the Kaysville City Museum committee, trying to save some of Kaysville City’s original buildings as well as a place to display historic treasures for the city, which is still a work in progress. The greatest role of her life was becoming a mother to Heather, Mesha, and Brandon, and a Funny Jamma to her grandchildren, Hannah and Wyatt, who absolutely adore her and have the best memories with her because she was so invested in their lives.

Gladys is survived by her daughters Heather Goodwin (Tod) and Mesha Graham. Her grandchildren Hannah GoodKnight (Nathan) and Wyatt Goodwin. Her siblings Barbara Davies (Brent), George Krage Sweeten (Patti), Terri Shaffer, Brad Sweeten (Michelle), Julie Murphy (Craig), John Sweeten, and Boyd Sweeten, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her son Brandon Michael Graham and her parents George and Jean Sweeten.

A memorial service for Gladys will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at, 555 Fairfield St, Kaysville, Utah. Friends and Family can visit prior to the memorial from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. The interment will follow the service at the Kaysville City Cemetery.
