Gay Lynn Herbert Jorgensen, 91, passed away peacefully on June 25th in her home at Legacy House in South Jordan, surrounded by loving family.
Born on July 6, 1934, in her grandparents’ home in Salina, Utah, she was the cherished daughter of Vaun and LaVaun Herbert. From her earliest years, Gay Lynn carried a deep love for family, learning, and meaningful work — qualities that would define her entire life.
In March of 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Grant Jorgensen, beginning a partnership filled with devotion, hard work, and shared purpose. Together they built a life centered on service — to their family, their church, and their community. Side by side, they operated Lewiston Drug Store and later developed Sunrise Park Assisted Living in Lewiston, Utah, creating places that became woven into the fabric of the community they loved.
Gay Lynn was never happier than when she had a project in motion. Whether organizing a community fundraiser for a new library, diving into family history, or compiling and publishing historical records for others, she poured her heart into preserving stories and strengthening connections. Among her many accomplishments, she compiled and published several histories, including Through the Board Gate, a work that reflects her dedication to honoring the past.
She is survived by her children, Mark, Chris (Gini), and Tamra McArthur (Ricky); her extended family, Bruce W. (Donna) Jorgensen, brother; Ramona G. Jorgensen, sister in law; and extended family children, Jana (Cal) Rist, Ernie (Sharon) Herbert, and Sonya Weiss.
She adored her grandchildren: Jamie Jorgensen (deceased), Christa (Brian) McDearmon, John David Jorgensen, Jeremy Jorgensen, Jessica (Richard) Walker, Shawntelle (Kenneth) Kenworthy, Rachel (Taten) Albright, and Nicole (Matthew) Quigley. She also treasured her many great grandchildren, each of whom she believed to be perfect in every way.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who tenderly cared for her in her final years, especially Honeybee Home Care (Amy and Brandy), whose kindness and compassion brought comfort and peace.
Gay Lynn lived a life of purpose, generosity, and quiet strength. Her legacy lives on in the stories she preserved, the community she strengthened, and the family she loved so deeply.
