Fay Angeline Codner Smith

June 4, 1944 — April 29, 2026

Logan, Utah

Fay Angeline Smith, 81, passed away on April 29, 2026 in Logan, Utah. Fay was born on June 4, 1944 to Lawford Roman Codner and Gladys Adina Codner, in Trelawny Parish, Jamaica. Fay was a woman of great kindness, and always mindful of other’s feelings. Her love and devotion to her family, especially her siblings, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, defined her life.

Fay was raised in a respected family of educators, who instilled in her a deep love of learning from an early age. She attended a prestigious boarding school (Westwood Academy) on the North Coast of Jamaica, where she excelled academically, and in a testament to her grace and poise, won a beauty pageant. Though she briefly considered a career as a flight attendant, her parents’ counsel that education mattered most resonated with her fully, and she set her sights on New York. In the 1960s, Fay migrated to the United States and enrolled at Queens College of the City University of New York, where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. She became a proud U.S. citizen and made Rockland County, New York her home for decades to come.

Fay forged a distinguished 35-year career as a business executive at Consolidated Edison in Manhattan. Her work ethic, intellect, and warmth earned her the admiration of her colleagues. Despite the demands of a busy career, Fay gave generously of her time to the communities she loved. She served two terms as President of the JAMMCAR Civic Organization of Rockland County, New York, a nonprofit dedicated to community outreach, educational and cultural events, and college scholarships for Jamaican-American youths. She was also a devoted officer at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Rockland County, a role that brought her deep joy and spiritual fulfillment.

After many fulfilling years in New York, Fay embraced a well-earned retirement. In 2007, she purchased a home in Boca Raton, Florida, where she filled her days with volunteering at the Faulk Counseling Center, cherishing friendships, traveling to visit her grandchildren in New York, and serving once again as a church officer at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Delray Beach, Florida. She loved dancing, cooking, the beach, reading and the joy of travel — her journeys taking her to London, Paris, Rome, Ghana, Trinidad, and beyond.

In August 2024, Fay moved to Legacy House in Logan, Utah to be closer to her beloved daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, spending her final months surrounded by the family she cherished above all else.

Fay is survived by her daughter, Melanie Lewandowski, and son-in-law Edgar Lewandowski (Providence, Utah); her grandchildren, Whitney Lewandowski and Roman Lewandowski (Providence, Utah); her brothers Anthony Codner (Boca Raton, Florida) and Cecil Codner (Houston, Texas); her ex-husband Mario Smith (Boca Raton, Florida); her nieces Kimberly Jones, Rema Clarke, Dahlia Codner McFarlane, Karen Codner, and Ava Codner; her nephews Wayne Codner, Neil Codner, Andrew Codner, Sean Codner, Dennis Codner, Michael Codner, Cornel “Dave” Codner, and Eric “Rickey” Codner; and extended family in New York, Jamaica, Canada, and Scotland.

Fay was preceded in death by her parents Lawford Roman Codner and Gladys Adina Codner; her sister Brenda Codner Jones; her brother Eric Codner; and her nephew Nicholas Boyd Codner.

Fay’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for Fay’s steadfast love and support throughout her life. Additionally, they wish to thank the staff at Legacy House for the kindness and devotion they gave to Fay during her difficult final months.

A celebration of life service in Logan, Utah, and an interment of ashes in Jamaica, will take place at later dates to be announced by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Paul’s Music Guild at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Delray Beach, Florida (www.musicstpauls.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
