Emily Anne Shakespeare Nielsen, 50, was welcomed to the heavenly realms on October 30, 2026, from her home in Logan, UT, after a long battle with cancer.
Emily was born on February 13, 1976, in Provo, Utah to Bill and Dena Shakespeare. Emily was raised in Orem and Provo, Utah.
Emily was passionate about making the world around her beautiful. She always had at least one and usually many projects underway. She was always learning, researching, and planning her next adventure. She was accomplished in book binding, jewelry making, design, cooking, sewing, paper crafts, and home decorating. As a teenager, Emily worked at a florist shop where she learned to arrange flowers. Over the years she honed her skill and arranged flowers for many of her loved ones’ weddings and other special occasions. When projecting, Emily always found the perfect touch to add the final charming details. Emily was an accomplished thrifter. She could always find a great deal and something fantastic.
Emily brought her eye for detail and artistic passions to all aspects of her life. When preparing meals for her family, her intentionality with preparation and presentation ensured everyone left the dinner table with a full belly and an uplifted soul.
Emily served a mission in the Micronesia Guam mission where she came to love the Pohnpeian people. While serving in Pohnpei, she met Elder Stanly Nielsen, whom she would later marry.
Emily and Stanly Egan Nielsen were sealed for time and eternity in the Bountiful Utah Temple on August 17, 1999. In the following years, they welcomed two sons to their family, Isaac and Elias. She found great purpose in raising her sons.
She was a passionate family historian and invested much of her time researching and then sharing her discoveries.
Friendships were very important to Emily. When her boys were young, Emily and Stan moved to Cache Valley where they raised their boys and developed deep relationships in the communities, especially Newton. Newton was truly home to her and the relationships she made carried into the rest of her life. Every new community Emily became a part of, there was a new group of friends: from high school to rural Cache Valley, Pohnpei to cancer support groups, BYU art classes to health specialists.
Emily cared deeply about her family and had Stanly, Isaac, and Elias as her chief accomplices in projects and plans. Together they served and beautified. She loved gardening and creating beautiful spaces. The writing and musical skills of her sons are a living legacy to the strength and productivity of her artist's touch in mothering.
Emily was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She endured surgeries and therapies and enjoyed several years of remission until her cancer returned. The extra decade with Emily was a blessing to all who loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Stanly, and her sons, Isaac and Elias. She is also survived by her father, William Ott (Jean) Shakespeare, and siblings Robert (Jeane) Shakespeare, Denise Shakespeare, Will (Jill) Shakespeare, and Amy (Scott) White, and many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dena Louise Blaylock Shakespeare and her niece Amelia Ferrin and all of her beloved ancestors whose lives she dedicated great time and resources to know and love.
The family wishes to thank the Cancer Center at Logan IHC and the extraordinary support of their nursing staff as well as her hospice nurses, Tami and Jamie.
