Elaine Sorensen Hulse was born on August 26, 1937, to Lester and Pearl Bennett. She was raised in East Garland, Utah, by her mother and stepfather, Marlin Sorensen. Elaine had a little brother, Steven, who lived only five days. Being an only child afterward was something she never loved, but she would go on to build a large and loving family of her own.
After her stepfather passed away, Elaine moved to Logan, Utah. It was there that she met her eternal companion, Boyd Hulse—when she caught him peeking over the fence while she was in her backyard. Their story began simply and sweetly, and they soon became high school sweethearts. Elaine and Boyd were married in the Logan LDS Temple on September 23, 1955, just a few months after graduation.
They quickly began their family, welcoming their first two sons in the first two years of marriage. Later came a daughter, and four years after that, another son. Family was everything to Mom. She spent her life caring for, worrying about, and fiercely loving her children and extended family.
Mom worked in several offices as a secretary, but her favorite job by far was working full-time in the Logan Temple. She loved the temple deeply and treasured the friendships and associations she made there. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mom had a strong and unwavering testimony. She served faithfully in many church callings, with her most favorite being Primary. Her life was marked by quiet service and a genuine love for helping others. Mom was also blessed with a wonderful circle of dear friends who meant so much to her. They were always so good to her, and she treasured their companionship. One of her greatest joys was her long-standing Monday lunch date at Angie’s, a tradition filled with laughter, friendship, and love that she looked forward to each week.
Elaine is survived by her children: Dave of Providence; Mike (Leisa) of Logan; Lisa (Flint) of Brigham City; and Tracy (Tina) of Smithfield. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, with the 36th due in March, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, with another on the way. She also leaves behind her beloved little dog, Buster, who will miss her dearly.
Elaine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Boyd; one grandson, Adam; and a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn.
Elaine remained active and vibrant throughout most of her life. This past year, an autoimmune disease slowed her down, but her spirit, faith, and love for her family remained strong.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to friends, family members, and the many doctors and caregivers who helped care for our mom.
Elaine's funeral service will be held on Friday, January 2nd at 11:00 AM at White Pine Funeral Service, 753 South 100 East in Logan. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:00-10:30 AM. Interment will follow in the Logan City Cemetery next to her husband Boyd.
