Delwyn Ray Friedli

November 16, 1938 — February 28, 2025

Providence, UT

Del was born to Carl Friedli and Elizabeth Seamons Friedli in Logan, Utah on November 16, 1938.  He was the youngest of four children - Nathan, Wilma, Milton, and Del. Del’s father died two weeks before Del turned five years old. Del and his siblings were raised by an amazing mother who was kind, loving, and strong. Del was married to the former Ann Webb, they remained friends. He then married Joy Jensen Watterson. They were married for forty-eight years. Del became a stepfather to Tod Watterson and later his wife Vonnie. Then became Grampa to Kolten and Dirt, whom he loved with all his heart and might. Later on, Kolten’s wife Alex Mathews, and children Ryder Jones, Allie and Dexon Watterson. Del was known as “The Car Guy”, but he was much more than that! “He was the nicest person I have ever known” -Joy. He had a multitude of friends and spoke to everyone, whether he knew them or not. He accepted people the way they were and didn’t try to change them. At the same time, don’t try to change Del! Del lost his right arm mid-way between his wrist and elbow in a manufacturing accident at eighteen years old. He never considered it a handicap, rather he turned it into a positive aspect of his life, owning and building and restoring antique cars.

Del held a number of jobs throughout his life. Three summers at his Aunt and Uncle’s ranch in Harlem, Montana, Legrand Johnson’s construction, Cache Valley Electric, Terry Thurston construction, and Thiokol. He wasn’t just an employee; he became their friend and gave his all for the companies he worked for.

The knowledge he had about the internal combustion engine and what part went to what cars and the years they were used was engrained in his mind.  Del leaves a huge legacy of love, talent, friendliness, honesty, helpfulness, perseverance, and a never-quit attitude. Del and Joy traveled with the VMCCA antique car club, and made many lifelong friends. He will be missed.

A Celebration of Life for Del will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the Riverwoods Conference Center, 615 Riverwood Pkwy, Logan, Utah, in the Willow Room. The Celebration of Life will start at 10:00 am.  Following the service, friends and family can stay to visit and mingle with the Friedli family until 1:00 pm. Del will be interred at the Providence Cemetery at a later date.

Through the years, Del fought four different cancers. In lieu of flowers, make a donation to the Huntsman Cancer Center, Gossners Cancer Center,  your favorite charity, or just take your sweetie or friend to lunch! Angie’s is good!
