Carolee Lucille Swensen was born on August 3, 1936, in Logan, Utah, to Elgo Hiram Anderson and Christena Spence Anderson. She was the oldest of four children. Carolee was raised on a farm in College Ward, where she spent her summers working in the sugar beet fields and helping with farm chores. Even after marrying and raising a family of her own, she continued to work on farm—picking beans and doing other tasks to earn extra income.
Carolee met the love of her life, Dennis Swensen, at South Cache High School when mutual friends encouraged Dennis to ask her to a dance. On May 14, 1954, they sealed their love in marriage at the Logan LDS Temple.
Together, Carolee and Dennis raised six wild boys who kept her busy as a devoted mother. Carolee was an exceptional homemaker, though she hated cooking. She was a talented seamstress, often sewing clothes for her sons. Her skills extended beyond the home—she contributed furnishings to the Seattle Street of Dreams home tours. Many of her grandchildren received handmade gifts at Christmas and whenever a new baby joined the family, a testament to her love and creativity.
Carolee was musically gifted, playing the piano, organ, and accordion. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings she cherished, including Relief Society President, Guide Patrol leader for the Boy Scouts, Family History Center volunteer, and a missionary assignment at the Church Distribution Center. Her passion for genealogy lives on through her children and grandchildren.
Carolee is survived by her children:
Brian (Cathy) Swensen
Alan Swensen (Tracey Hone)
Dale (Leslie) Swensen
Grant (Rose) Swensen
Blake (Denise) Swensen
Clair (Bonnie) Swensen
She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Additional surviving family members include her brother Lex (Penni) Anderson; brother-in-law Ronald Swensen; sisters-in-law Carol (Tom) Buchanan and Colleen Swensen.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dennis, her parents and in-laws, sister LaDawn (Melvin) Foster, brother Val Anderson, and great-grandson Stephen.
Carolee will be deeply missed, but we find comfort in knowing she is reunited with her husband and free from the pain and suffering that burdened her body. We extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Legacy House, where she spent her final seven years, for their compassionate care. Special thanks also go to Rocky Mountain Hospice for their support during her final months.
