Obituary

Carla Dawn Romrell, 61, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, surrounded by her family, after a long, courageous, and painful battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Carla was born on October 26, 1964, in Roseburg, Oregon, to Robert and LaVerne Pritchard. She grew up alongside her six siblings—her built-in best friends—enjoying a happy childhood filled with bike rides, tennis, laughter, and time spent outdoors watching the clouds and imagining their shapes. From an early age, she was helping in the home, learning the skills and developing the care for others that would define her life.

Following her graduation from Roseburg High School, Carla moved to Rexburg, Idaho, where she attended Ricks College. On the first day of arriving, she met Douglas Romrell. Their connection was immediate and lasting. They were married on March 23, 1983, in the Idaho Falls Temple—just one day shy of celebrating 43 years of marriage.

Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and unwavering devotion. They were blessed with four children: Nichole, Nathan (Annie), Blake (Kelly), and Bree (Azland). Carla was a constant and loving presence in their lives, creating a home filled with warmth, stability, and care. Later came her grandchildren—Bentlee, Cooper, Tate, Brynn, Prestlee, Max, Griffey, Milo, Ruby, and one on the way—who became the absolute joy of her life. Nothing lit her up more than being “Grandma.”

In 1988, Doug and Carla moved to Logan, Utah, where they continued building their life and family. Both earned degrees from Utah State University. Carla earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and later extended her education to the equivalent of a master’s degree.

Carla devoted her professional life to teaching children, spending many years in second and third grade classrooms, most notably at Providence Elementary. Teaching was an extension of who she was. She was known for her patience, kindness, creativity, and genuine care for each student. She had a special ability to reach children who needed extra understanding and support, and she made each one feel seen and valued. Parents often requested her, and fellow teachers leaned on her for guidance, wisdom, and friendship.

More than anything, Carla was known for how she made people feel.

She was the light in many people's lives.

She brought warmth, calm, and quiet joy wherever she went. She had a gentle sense of humor, a listening ear, and a way of making others feel safe, included, and loved. She didn’t need to be the loudest in the room—her presence was steady, kind, and deeply felt.

She loved the simple things in life—anything pink, fun shoes, flowers (particularly yellow and white daffodils), Diet Coke, new clothes, good food, and music. She found joy in being active, whether it was biking, swimming, playing tennis, or hoping to spend more time playing pickleball. She loved to organize, plan, and take care of the details that made life run smoothly. If something was lost, she could find it. If something needed to be done, she did it well.

Carla was thoughtful in everything she did, including her gift-giving. She paid attention to people, remembered what mattered to them, and gave in ways that made others feel known and loved.

She was a constant for her family—through every stage of life and through every trial. Even during years of illness and pain, she continued to show up for those she loved, offering support, concern, and care. She worried about her family, wanted the best for them, and loved them with her whole heart.

Carla also had a gift for connection. Whether in her home, her classroom, or her community, she made space for others. She included people who might otherwise feel alone, reached out without being asked, and created an environment where people felt they belonged.

She is survived by her husband, Doug, and her children Nichole, Nathan (Annie), Blake (Kelly), and Bree (Azland), along with her beloved grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, LaVerne Pritchard, and her siblings, who remained a close and important part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Pritchard, and an infant brother, Stanley.

The family expresses special gratitude to Carla’s sisters, brother, and mother who provided extended, loving care and support over the past several years. Their service and devotion meant everything to Carla and her family. The children also express deep gratitude to their father for his unwavering devotion and care for their mother, especially throughout her illness.

Funeral services will be held at White Pine Funeral Home, 753 S. 100 E., Logan, Utah. A viewing will take place Sunday, March 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again Monday, March 30, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The funeral will follow at 12:00 p.m., with interment at the Providence Cemetery.

Carla will be remembered for her kindness, her quiet strength, her unwavering love, and the light she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
